P.E.O. Ladies Gather at the Bookshop

P.E.O. members Elaine Cashion and  Kathy Wilson
Last night, about twenty ladies of the P.E.O. Sisterhood (Philanthropic educational organization) enjoyed each other's company and our wonderful books at the FriendShop! Delicious snacks were served while many attendees purchased books, and several became new members/Friends of the Boerne Public Library.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood is an international women's organization of about 250,000 members with a primary focus on providing educational opportunities for female students worldwide. The Sisterhood is organized with chapters throughout the United States and Canada, headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa.

If you would like to host your organization's meeting or event at the FriendShop, please contact Friends President Cheryl Perz: clp1958@gvtc.com.

Meet Susan Garrett Baker on Thursday, January 31

Join us on Thursday, January 31, 5pm-7pm, as we welcome Texas author Susan Garrett Baker to Boerne and the FriendShop.

We will be serving wine and treats from the Boerne Cooking Cottage! Mingle with friends and browse all of our new store items, and hear Susan speak at 6pm.

In her 2010 autobiography, Passing It On, Baker gives an honest account of the difficulties of blending two families after her second marriage to Former Secretary of State James A. Baker, III, the struggles with and joys of her faith, and her activism on the issues of homelessness and record labeling.

Susan is the co-chairman and founding member of the National Alliance to End Homelessness in 1983, as well as the Parents' Music Resource Center, which worked to successfully implement the music industry's label rating system. Susan also served on the boards of the Enterprise Foundation, Families for the Homeless, Neighborhood Centers, Inc., Community Bible Study & Focus on the Family, and the Houston Food Bank.
