In her 2010 autobiography, Passing It On, Baker gives an honest account of the difficulties of blending two families after her second marriage to Former Secretary of State James A. Baker, III, the struggles with and joys of her faith, and her activism on the issues of homelessness and record labeling.
Susan is the co-chairman and founding member of the National Alliance to End Homelessness in 1983, as well as the Parents' Music Resource Center, which worked to successfully implement the music industry's label rating system. Susan also served on the boards of the Enterprise Foundation, Families for the Homeless, Neighborhood Centers, Inc., Community Bible Study & Focus on the Family, and the Houston Food Bank.
Among the awards she has received are the Eisenhower Institute Public Service Award, Neighborhood Centers Inc. Volunteer of the Year Award, and the Ima Hogg Mental Health Award.
The FriendShop of the Friends of the Boerne Public Library is located at 451 N. Main St., Boerne, Texas, next to the Boerne Public Library.
