NOVEMBER 2012

Hi Friends!  Fall is in the air and we are looking forward to having a wonderful holiday season at the FriendShop

LITTLE LISTENERS

On the first Wednesday of every month,  Miss Constance and the Little Listeners (toddlers age 2 and up) come to the FriendShop for storytime.  This month we celebrated Fire Prevention Month with the Boerne Fire Department and Judith Umberger's birthday!

Here's the FOBPL fire marshal, Ann Leibener along with Joan Nitschke.

The children sat outside and listened to a presentation about the equipment on the fire truck.

The fireman put on  the gear he has to wear to fight a fire. Oooo! Oooo! He looked kind of scary all dressed up!

Making friends with a high five!

Finally, everyone who wanted to, went inside the fire truck for an upclose look.

Thank you to the Boerne Fire Department for visiting the FriendShop!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUDITH!
Thanks for all you do!

Judith is the FOBPL Secretary.

Please visit us on Facebook and "like" page!  It's your one stop site for upcoming events, what's new at the shop, daily trivia, and more!

FALL BOOK

The Fall Booksale was on Saturday, Oct 13th from 9:00 am- 1:00.  We had thousands of books as well as videos, DVDs, puzzles and more. About 200 people enjoyed the great deals.

Because the Texas Librarian Association was using the Library conference room, the Friends set up in the library lobby.  Here are some pictures of our volunteers.

Sales in the lobby were brisk and equal to sales in the shop.

The nicely packaged Christmas books were a big hit shoppers

When it comes to volunteers for a booksale, you need many hands.  THANKS to the many Friends for all their hard work  setting up tables, arranging books, and working at the check out tables

On Thursday Oct 25th the Friends hosted a book signing and reading by award winning writer Earle Martin.

Earle Martin read from his book, The Boy Who Saved My Life: Walking into the Light with my Autistic Grandson. A powerful, uplifting true story about Martin and his grandson, Charlie.

Bits n' Pieces
  • I hear the water tank next to the FriendShop is going up soon.
  • We have received the 3rd bid on the deck. We are talking to a structural engineer about design plans.  We have received $5,500 in donations and we hope to raise another $10,000. If you would like to help, please contact Judith Umberger at jeumberger@yahool.com or or Cheryl Perz at clp1958@gvtc.com to make your designated 'deck donation' today!
  • Nov 2nd  - FOBPL monthly meeting, Friday, 2:00 at the FriendShop.
  • We will NOT be open the Friday after Thanksgiving, but we WILL be open on Saturday.  Stop in and say hi.  We may have cookies and hot chocolate!

The FriendShop is rapidly growing into more than just a bookstore.  It's a place to meet friends, have a cup of tea, read the paper, talk to local authors and enjoy the company of other like minded people.  Not to mention - find great deals on used books! We're proud to be your bookstore, Boerne.  Thank you for your support. If you haven't visited us yet, please stop in!

We are located next to the Library and under the windmill. Normal business hours are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10:00am - 2:00 pm. Kids and coffee are always welcome!
